Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the opening of Albany Capital Center, marking the completion of the new $78.5 million, state-of-the-art convention center in downtown Albany. The project, which transformed a long-blighted section of the City near the Capitol and spurred private development around the site, was completed in 24 months, on time and on budget. The construction of the Center employed 140 workers per day on average from 11 trades and will provide 120 permanent jobs. The ACC, with its increased capacities, is projected to attract a greater volume of new convention and meeting business to the Capital Region by tapping market segments previously unavailable to Albany.
“The completion of the Albany Capital Center will help continue to drive downtown Albany’s revitalization, creating a central space for visitors from near and far to host events, meetings, conferences and more,” Governor Cuomo said. “With this new, state-of-the-art event space in the heart of Albany, we open up endless opportunities for people to come to the state capital and see for themselves all that this area has to offer.”
